Auburn named one of the best towns for holiday shopping

Auburn is among the 25 top cities in the country to do your holiday shopping, especially for shopping at local businesses, according to Expedia.

Based on the company's social-media analysis of over 3 million posts, Auburn joins other college towns and a couple of SEC cities — Athens, Georgia, and Fayetteville, Arkansas — on this year's list.

Downtown merchants will be kicking off the holiday season and Iron Bowl weekend, this Friday, Nov. 24, with Blue Friday. Live music and Aubie will be there as shops offer specials all day.

Events and deals will be going on throughout December. The city's Christmas Open House will be held Dec. 8–10 downtown. Stores are encouraged to each put on a Christmas-themed activity during this weekend.

The annual Christmas parade will take place downtown on Sunday, Dec. 10, starting at 2 p.m. Parade entry for people who are not members of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce is $25. The deadline for registration is Dec. 1.
