The Best Ice Cream for a Solo Valentine's Day

So you are alone on Valentine's day. No really, it’s fine! I’m sure you have great friends and you are taking time to really enjoy being single. Good for you, I’m glad you are so happy.

Block out the voices of your mom, grandmas, and aunts asking you why you aren’t seeing anyone. You are single and proud. Go you!!

However, if your friends have been suckered into relationships, leaving you without a group of single girl friends to take on the night with, just embrace the alone time. You need some you time! Watch a very non romantic documentary about landfills and take a bubble bath.

But since you don’t have anyone to buy you a box of chocolates and it would be more than a little sad to buy one for yourself, get yourself a classic sweet treat that can be purchased year round. Even better, this treat doesn’t contribute to the fake capitalist holiday we all know valentine's day to be, a tub of ice cream.

One solid, if not obvious, option is Ben and Jerry’s Peanut Butter Cup. The ice cream has full peanut butter cups in it and because no one is eating the pint with you, there is no one there to fuss at you if you pick out all the cups, leaving behind a bunch of empty vanilla ice cream at the end.

Now if you want to be able to eat an entire pint of icecream alone in the span of one episode of Dateline, but still want to have a toned body that leaves you with the option to have a boyfriend next year (just kidding you keep in shape for YOU, I totally get it); you can pick yourself up a pint of Halo Top Mint Chocolate Chip. No need to worry about the chocolate to ice cream ratio, there are only about 4 chips in the whole pint to keep the calorie content low. You will enjoy it, but not that much, no sense in being too happy. You don’t NEED excess or even flavor. Just like you don’t need a man.

Now maybe you are looking for something a little more, indulgent. Maybe, even though you are a stunning single goddess, there is a little bittersweet twinge to the evening, maybe you are newly single and you need this night to treat yo’ self and remember how much fun you can have all on your own. To kill all the bitter in that sweet you need to get yourself that classic Bluebell Homemade Vanilla. It only comes in a gallon and pairs nicely with an entire Marie Calendars premade apple pie, a cheap bottle of grocery store wine, a Ryan Gosling movie, and a sprinkle of your tears. It may be boring but it is safe and comforting and you already know you love it. It will never change or go away, it’s vanilla.

However you are spending this fake holiday, be sure and grab yourself a pint of your favorite ice cream and be as happy as you can be. You don’t need wild parties or romantic dates to enjoy a holiday! And keep it in perspective, it’s a bizarre holiday where we spend too much money and give each other heart shaped antacids. It’s really not that great anyway.
