Police release names of men involved in Auburn Mall shooting

On Sunday, the Auburn Police Division identified Deion S. Brooks, 23, of Waldorf, Maryland, and Michael R. Trimble, 21, of Montgomery, as the two individuals involved in Friday's shooting in the Auburn Mall parking lot.

On Friday afternoon, the two met in the parking lot where there was an escalation that led to the men shooting each other, police said. Police said their investigation has yielded conflicting reports from the men as to what led to the incident.

According to APD, a handgun was recovered near one of the men at the scene.

Brooks and Trimble were both airlifted via Lifesaver helicopters to Piedmont Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia, where both men remain hospitalized in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.

The case remains under investigation by APD, which said charges of first-degree assault, discharging a firearm within city limits and reckless endangerment are pending upon their release.

Police have asked that anyone with information on the case call detectives at 334-501-3140 or through the anonymous tip line at 334-246-1391.
