After a five-year dry spell in Mississippi, Gus Malzahn's recruiting reach in the Magnolia State has skyrocketed.
Two days after receiving a commitment from 2019 defensive line prospect Jamond Gordon, Auburn picked up its 11th verbal of the class in four-star defensive end Jaren Handy out of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. The pair are the first Auburn commits from the state since 2013 (Deon Mix).

The 6-foot-5, 278-pound Handy is the No. 8 strongside defensive end in the 2019 class, which Auburn is now ranked No. 13 overall and No. 5 in the SEC in, according to 247Sports composite. Gordon and Handy are the only defensive lineman in the Tigers' 2019 class, and join five-star linebacker Owen Pappoe, four-star defensive back Jaylin Simpson and three-star cornerback Cordale Flott as Auburn's defensive players for next year.
