Mayor Bill Ham shook hands with the Auburn Orange Dixie Youth baseball team at the Auburn City Council meeting on Aug. 21 and publicly commended the team for their finish as runner-up in the Dixie Youth "O" zone World Series.
The team won the District 10 championship and went on to become state champions before progressing to the World Series.
“I want to tell you and all the volunteers, and certainly the parents and you guys that worked so hard, that this community is very proud of you,” Ham said. “We appreciate your hard work and dedication and how you represented this community.”
The council proposed and approved two board announcements concerning position vacancies. There are two vacancies on the Industrial Development Board, with terms beginning Oct. 10, 2018 and ending Oct. 9, 2024. There is a single vacancy on the Lee County Youth Development Center Board of Directors, with a term of Oct. 1,
At Tuesday's meeting, the Council also approved a lease agreement with First Transit, Inc., which runs the Tiger Transit system. It will allow the evening Tiger Ten shuttle service to use the parking spaces on the north side of West Magnolia Avenue near the alley located between 108 and 110 West Magnolia Avenue and Wright Street as a loading and unloading zone.

Mailed absentee ballots must be postmarked no later than Aug. 27, and the absentee election manager must receive them by noon on election day, Aug. 28. The deadline to hand-deliver an absentee ballot is 5 p.m. on Aug. 27.
The City Council also unanimously approved the following items:
- Alcohol beverage licenses to Ithaka Hospitality Partners Auburn Beverage for Oktoberfest at Ag Heritage Park on Oct. 6, and to Pho Lee, a Vietnamese restaurant located on East Glenn Avenue.
- A Program Funded Task Force Agreement with the United States Drug Enforcement Agency for the 2019 fiscal.
- A $20,031 contract with Southern Software, Inc. for the Public Safety Department Mobile Data Information System used by the Police Division.
- A lease agreement with Veolia North America for the lease of a 2008 Ford F550 pickup truck.
- The acceptance of a utility and lighting easement from 248 South Gay, LLC to support the new pedestrian lighting being installed in conjunction with the Collegiate Hotel, as well as future lighting along Gay Street.
- The acceptance of various rights-of-way from Tucker B. Brown for property located at 227 Miller Ave.
- The acceptance of various drainage, utility easements and rights-of-way from Clayton Group, Inc for property located west of Miracle Road/Lee Road 83 and north of North Donahue Drive.
- Acceptance of various drainage, utility easements and rights-of-way from SMB Land, LLC for property located south of Tuscany Hills Drive and east of North College Street.
