Former 4-star OL Tyler Carr leaving Auburn program

Auburn offensive lineman Tyler Carr, a former four-star prospect out of Gadsden, Alabama, is leaving the Tigers football program, head coach Gus Malzahn announced Friday evening.

The 6-foot-5, 329-pounder will graduate Saturday and is leaving the team to pursue "his dream" at an internship opportunity.

"He's a wonderful young man," Malzahn told reporters. "We wish him nothing but the best in his career."

A would-be redshirt junior, Carr has seen action in 26 games as a Tiger, including all 14 games last season in a reserve role.

At fall camp Friday, J.B. Grimes worked drills with his apparent first-team offensive line of left tackle Prince Tega Wanogho, left guard Marquel Harrell, center Kaleb Kim, right guard Mike Horton and right tackle Austin Troxell. UMass transfer Jack Driscoll rotated behind Troxell at tackle, while former five-star tackle Calvin Ashley slid over behind Horton as the backup right guard.

"That's what J.B. Grimes thought was best at the time," Malzahn said. "He's excited to compete there ... he could play guard or tackle so that is not quite set in stone. I think Calvin enjoys that and he is competing for playing time at that position.”

Malzahn and select players will speak with the media Sunday night at 5:45 p.m. CST before the team dons full pads Tuesday.
