Auburn lands 9 players on preseason coaches All-SEC teams

For the second year in a row, Auburn football has landed nine players on the preseason coaches All-SEC teams, released by the conference Thursday.

Though Auburn football did not have any players make the first team, wide receiver Ryan Davis, quarterback Jarrett Stidham, defensive tackle Derrick Brown, linebacker Deshaun Davis and cornerback Jamel Dean all were voted to the second team by the league’s coaches.

The other four -- offensive lineman Marquel Harrell, defensive linemen Marlon Davidson, Dontavius Russell and defensive back Javaris Davis -- were all named to the third team.

Auburn’s nine players represented ranks it third in the SEC, and it’s the same nine who were selected to the All-SEC teams by the media at SEC Media Days a month ago.

Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own players.

Auburn, which is ranked ninth in the preseason AP Top 25, opens the season Sept. 1 against sixth-ranked Washington in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff game in Atlanta. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. CT and will air on ABC.
