Members of the Auburn-Opelika community gather for Pride on The Plains on Friday, June 1, 2018 in Opelika, Ala.

The Pride on the Plains Board of Governors will host their second annual Mr. and Miss Pride on the Plains Pageant Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018 at the Irish Bred Pub in Opelika.

Beginning at 8:30 p.m., the pageant will be awarding two lucky people with the title of Mr. and Miss Pride on the Plains. The contestants will be competing in categories such as presentation, evening wear, question and answer and talent.

Chad Peacock, president of the Pride on the Plains board, said the pageant is a great time for participants to come and represent the LGBTQ community.

“Mr. and Miss Pride On The Plains is a pageant that helps our organization find two individuals who truly embody Pride,” Peacock said. “As Mr. and Miss Pride on the Plains, they will be the face of our organization for the next 365 days and will step into a role model position for the LGBTQ+ community.”

The newly selected Mr. and Miss Pride on the Plains will be active in the community, and serve as goodwill ambassadors for Pride on the Plains when they visit other cities throughout the country.

“We had an amazing Mr. and Miss in our first year, so there are some pretty big shoes to fill," Peacock said. "We hold our title holders to a very high standard because we hold ourselves to a high standard.”

The previous Mr. and Miss Pride, Derik H Wood and Addison Vontrell, will also be there to pass on the torch, as well as a special appearance from a Miss Illinois Continental Brittany Moore.

“I look forward to seeing the hard work all the contestants put into wanting to represent our organization,” Peacock said. “It says a lot about the great work an organization is doing when you have people that are willing to compete to represent it.”

Peacock also said that pride is a vital aspect of the community.

“The people that represent [pride] should never take their role in pride lightly," Peacock said. “I’m excited to see who wins.”
