Stinky's Fish Camp is closed as of Tuesday, Sept. 17.

Stinky’s Fish Camp, located near the intersection of Wire Road and Shug Jordan Parkway, has permanently closed as of Tuesday, September 17.

The restaurant has been in Auburn for just over two years, having opened its doors for the first time in August 2017.

Jim Richard, chef-owner of Word of Mouth Restaurant Group, which controlled the Stinky’s location in Auburn, said that reasons for closing the restaurant were mostly financial.

“I understand everybody wants to know why the restaurant closed,” Richard said. “Well, because it’s a business, and a business needs to be profitable.”

Word of Mouth owns five other succesful businesses and hoped to add Auburn to that list, Richard said. But after two years, Richard made the decision to close the door for good.

“You have to make tough business decisions in any business, and this is just one of those tough business decisions,” Richard said.
