Lee County was placed under a tornado watch by the National Weather Service Thursday morning, prompting the University to suspend classes until 2 p.m.

Normal University operations will resume at 1 p.m., according to Campus Safety.

Lee County Schools and Auburn City Schools also suspended classes and will be closed all of Thursday due to the severe weather threat.

The tornado watch expires Thursday at noon and a flash flood watch expires Thursday at 6 p.m.

A tornado watch means conditions are favorable for a tornado to develop, according to the NWS.

Greene Hall — located in the College of Veterinary Medicine — and Ralph Draughon Library will be open for students seeking shelter during the tornado watch.
