Auburn safety Daniel Thomas was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft on Saturday.

He’s the fifth Tiger selected in this year's draft.

During his freshman season, Thomas played in 11 games for the Tigers and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Second Team. He became the first Auburn freshman since 2009 to have two interceptions in a game when he picked off Jalen Hurts twice in the 2016 edition of the Iron Bowl.

Thomas earned his first collegiate start the next game against Oklahoma in the Sugar Bowl.

The Montgomery, Alabama, native was a late addition to Auburn's 2016 recruiting class as a two-star prospect, but emerged quickly appearing in all 14 games for the Tigers during his sophomore stint. He recorded 35 tackles with an interception against Georgia Southern and a fumble recovery at Missouri.

Thomas doubled his tackles the following season, with 74. He led the team with eight tackles against Washington, had a pick-six against Alabama State and forced a fumble against both Texas A&M and Georgia.

Throughout his four-year career at Auburn, he totaled 199 tackles, five interceptions and three forced fumbles. Thomas was a team captain for the 2019 season and led the team in tackles in three of their 13 games.

Thomas joins former Auburn teammate and defensive tackle Dontavious Russell in Jacksonville, who was selected by the Jaguars in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
