El Dorado has been chosen as The Plainsman's Choice for Mexican Restaurant of the Year for the third time.

How does El Dorado stay so successful? According to owner Jose Barragan, it’s “dedication and hard work.”

The usually bustling restaurant took a hit last year with the pandemic, but Barragan and his staff seem to be taking it in stride.

“It was tough,” he said. “When you come in and you see … your restaurant like a ghost, nothing, it was tough.”

Now that the restaurant is back open for dine-in customers, it’s regaining its former Friday-night crowds, with students streaming in for hot queso and cold margaritas.

Barragan said the most popular featured menu items for students are the El Dorado Favorite, with “rice and grilled chicken or steak with cheese dip on top” and the Pollo Loco, with “grilled chicken cooked with onions and mushrooms on a bed of rice with cheese dip on top.”

The quesadillas and nachos are a staple of the college student diet as well.

Go on down South College to El Dorado for a night out, or order to go for an easy and delicious meal. Either way, they’re more than prepared to serve you.
