A spirit that is not afraid

One hobby is never enough according to Chloé Covin

Through hard work and dedication, Covin finds peace in creative outlets.

A local artist creates a life for herself based on her own passions and creativity. Chloé Covin is a prominent local personality in the Auburn community. Covin spends lots of her time in Coffee Cat, on Instagram, or at the Standard Deluxe, a venue in Waverly. She is a small business owner who consistently dabbles in art, music and health.

Because of her many hobbies, Covin has previously been featured in “The Plainsman,” and she notices a common thread through her articles: her health journey.

“It [her health journey] was a very formative experience,” Covin said.

Her most recent hobby, however, is Heavy Pour, a business of household goods made from the rare material Jesmonite. According to Covin, her inspiration comes from a deep love for art and a consistent life pattern.

“I have gone through this cycle in my life many times where there is just this pattern of where I get bored, so then I need to figure out something to do,” she said.

This pattern is why her raw fruit and vegetable juice company, Livewell, was born four years ago. She markets and delivers her products all by herself.

“It is not glamorous; it is a lot of work.”

Despite Covin handling the whole operation, she claims her businesses are not a product of her talent.

“It’s not talent though, it’s dedication,” she said.

Covin uses a methodical business approach where she desires to make functional, useful and beautiful products. For example, Heavy Pour features household trays and ring holders for everyday use. The company came to life in November after Covin entered into a season of recovery after her Endometriosis surgery. She discovered the composite material of Jesmonite when scrolling through social media.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” Covin said.

She mentioned the material is unavailable in the United States causing her to have the material shipped to her. Upon its arrival, she created her own home film studio filled with cameras and tripods in her guest bedroom to document the creative process.

“Sharing the process makes it more relatable,” Covin said.

However, the process requires time, making her schedule very delicate. According to Covin, she spends equal parts of time on each hobby to balance her schedule and achieve her goals.

“It’s like spokes on a wheel, is how I would describe my schedule,” Covin said. “Every once in a while there is an opening, and so I throw something else in and all the other spokes adjust.”

You can find Heavy Pour artwork at Auburn’s local coffee shop, Coffee Cat. They support and sell Covin’s artwork on their store shelves. She has been a part of Coffee Cat since the beginning as she was a member of the original work crew when the shop first opened.

Covin concludes her story with some words of encouragement: “I think anytime someone has an idea or something they are interested in, two words: just try.”
