The Plainsman's spring fashion guide

It’s spring time in Auburn and that means it’s time for a wardrobe change. Keeping up with the latest trends can be difficult, so here is a spring fashion guide to help navigate the transition between seasons.

With the warm weather now in full swing, athleisure seems to be the most popular for everyday wear to be cool while also looking cute.

Olivia Hand, Auburn alumna, sales associate at Therapy Boutique said, “We have these basic athleisure tops, I would say is our most sold item.”

Local boutiques are sharing that athleisure tank tops and flowy shorts seem to be giving name brand athletic wear companies a run for their money.

Shelby Cohan, general manager/buyer at Charming Oaks says, “I think everybody is out to knock off the big names, definitely the flow shorts and skirts.”

Colors come and go just like popular trends change while the seasons transition. With the transition into spring and summer, bright colors get brought back out. Pink, blue and green seem to be the most popular colors, but green appears to take the lead this season.

Lily Tears, freshman in elementary education, and stylist at Fab’rik said, “Green recently. Pinks have always been popular but greens and blues have been selling the most here."

Green seems to be making a comeback for most popular color of the season, but kelly green in particular has become a statement look.

“Green.Lime green. Kelly green,” said Mackenzie Akins, sophomore in marketing, sales associate at Elisabet Boutique.

When it comes to patters and prints, florals and abstract appear to be selling a lot recently.

“A big trend I’m noticing for spring is a lot of floral patterns,” Hand said.

Akins added, “There has been a lot of abstract print recently."

Looking for the most popular article of clothing this spring? Midi dresses are in.

“We’re really liking midi dresses, we’re seeing more of those,” Hand said.

Need an outfit for a night out with friends or a date night? A midi dress would do it.

“Those [midi dresses] have really come back in style. Not to the floor but not to your knees, so a midi dress,” Tears said.

If someone is looking for the perfect outfit for a beach day or a shopping day, crotchet outfits are the new craze.

“We’re loving the crotchet tops or bottoms. Anything that gives off that beauty look,” Hand said.

When it comes to outfit trends, accessories carry the same importance when it comes to being trendy and shoes can make or break the outfit.

“Sneakers are gonna stay in…but theres definitely a turn toward wedges,” Cohan said.

Not sure what shoes to pair with a spring outfit? Throw on a pair of colorful sneakers or a pair of wedges to achieve that springtime look.

Jewelry also goes through trend phases but this springs jewelry trends are not much different from previous years. Statement pieces and gold hoops are still the most popular among students.

“Everybody loves a good pop of color in an earring but I think gold is still more important than silver. Hoops are still there,” Cohan said.

Still looking for a spring outfit? The color green, midi dresses, wedges and gold hoops are there to complete the wardrobe. Crotchet and athleisure wear will stay trendy while also being comfortable on those hot Auburn spring days.
