Stats to know: No. 1 Auburn completes perfect home stand, beats Ole Miss 106-76

After a first half full of runs, No. 1 Auburn blows past Ole Miss, completing yet another season sweep of an SEC foe, in a 106-76 win to become within one win of clinching a share of the SEC regular season title. Below are stats to know from the Tigers’ 26th win of the season.




Game Specific:

106 is the most points the Tigers have scored this season and the third time Auburn has hit triple digits this season. 

Chad Baker-Mazara’s 22 points are the most for the guard this season, shooting 8-for-12 from the field and 4-of-5 from deep.

Auburn has knocked down 10-or-more shots from beyond the arc five times in SEC play, two have come against Ole Miss as the Tigers hit 11 such shots tonight. 

Five Tigers scored in double figures against the Rebels. Two had 20-or-more points and a trio had 13 apiece. 

Auburn’s 30 point margin of victory tonight is its largest in SEC play.

Shooting 2-for-5 from deep, Denver Jones has knocked down 57.6%, 19-of-33, from beyond the arc in the month of February. 

The first half was 20 minutes full of runs for both the Rebels and Tigers. Auburn put together a 22-2 run to lead by as many as 21 in the first half, but Ole Miss answered with an 18-4 run to cut the Tigers’ lead to single digits prior to the halftime break. 

Both squads started Wednesday night’s game knocking down their first three shots a piece and the Tigers made six straight field goal attempts to begin the contest.  


Johni Broome:

The national player of the year candidate put together a 16 point first half performance and finished the night with 24 points – his 13th time scoring 20-or-more in a game – nine rebounds and four assists in 31 minutes. 

Broome is the 86th player in NCAA D-I men’s basketball history to eclipse 2,500 career points with 2515 points in his Morehead State and Auburn careers combined.

Series Specific:

Tonight’s win marks Auburn’s fourth-straight sweep over the Rebels and the Tigers’ eighth-straight win over Ole Miss which is a new series record for Auburn – the previous high was seven-straight from 1964-68 and 1990-93.

Auburn leads 85-64 in the all-time series with Ole Miss. Auburn leads 55-17 in games played on the Plains and 8-6 at Neville Arena winning the last four meetings in Auburn and five of the last six.

The Tigers are 12-4 in the last 16 games against the Rebels. Prior to that stretch, Ole Miss had won 10 straight and 13 of the last 15 in the series.

With Auburn, Bruce Pearl is now 6-5 against the Rebels at Neville Arena and 6-4 in Oxford.


Program History:

Auburn has set a program record for its best SEC start through 15 games at 14-1. The Tigers started 9-0 in SEC play for the third time in program history including the second time in the last four seasons.

The Tigers’ 26th win ties the 1998-99 season for second most in Auburn history, one win shy of the 2021-22 season with 27 victories which is the program record.

Auburn has now matched the 1998-99 Tigers for the best 28-game start in program history with a 26-2 record.


Resume:

Auburn, which is No. 1 in the NET Rankings, continues to lead the country with 15 quad one wins, which is five more than any other team in the country. Alabama, Oregon and Tennessee are tied for second with nine quad one wins.

With three quad one games remaining in the regular season, Auburn has the chance to tie the record of 18 quad one wins set by UConn last season.

With Auburn’s win over Ole Miss tonight, senior center Dylan Cardwell (2020-25) ties Jaylin Williams (2019-24) as winningest player in Auburn history at 114 wins.
