Stats to know: No. 1 Auburn snaps 37-year streak with win at Rupp Arena, clinches share of SEC title

No. 1 Auburn continued its perfect SEC road record with a historic win inside of Rupp Arena — snapping a 37-year streak of losses — to clinch at least a share of the SEC regular season title for the fifth time in program history. Included are stats to know from the top-ranked Tigers' most recent historic win of the now championship season. 




Game Specific:

Miles Kelly knocked down a season high nine shots from deep inside of Rupp Arena on Saturday, which is one shy of the Auburn single-game record. 

The Tigers’ 12 made shots from beyond the arc is the second most Auburn has made in a true road game this season.

Miles’ Kelly’s 30 points are the most of his Auburn career and second most in his collegiate career. 

Auburn’s trio of guards combined for 73 of the Tigers 94 points abasing Kentucky, shooting 22-for-35 from the field and knocking down 11 3-pointers. 

The Tigers turned the Wildcats over a season high 18 times resulting in 21 points for Auburn. 

Bruce Pearl’s defense held Kentucky’s Otega Oweh to his second lowest point total of the season with just four. 

Kentucky attempted 38 free throws, the most by an Auburn opponent all season, collecting 28 points from the charity stripe. 

Auburn held the Wildcats to just four made shots from deep, shooting 4-for-17, which ties Kentucky’s season low of 3-pointers made. 


Series Specific:

In the 122nd all-time meeting between Auburn and Kentucky, the Tigers won just their third ever game inside of Rupp Arena and first since 1988. 

The win snapped the Tigers’ longest road drought in SEC play of 37 years ahead of at Florida which is 29 years.

Auburn has won five of the last nine games against Kentucky.

Program History:

The Tigers clinched at least a share of the SEC regular-season title which would be the fifth in program history joining the 1960, 1999, 2018 and 2022 seasons. 

Auburn matched the 2021-22 Tigers for the most SEC wins in program history (15) and the most regular-season wins (27).

The Tigers extended its program record SEC-road winning streak to nine games and remain the only unbeaten team on the road in SEC play this season.

Auburn basketball won three SEC regular season championships from 1906 to 2017. They’ve now matched that number in the last eight seasons.


Resume:

Auburn, which is No. 1 in the NET Rankings, continues to lead the country with 16 quad one wins, which is five more than any other team in the country. Alabama, Oregon and Tennessee are tied for second with nine quad one wins.

With two quad one games remaining in the regular season, Auburn has the chance to tie the record of 18 quad one wins set by UConn last season. 


Miscellaneous:

Pearl ties Sonny Smith for the most wins against Kentucky by an Auburn head coach all-time with seven. Other Tiger head coaches who have defeated the Wildcats include: Bob Davis (3), Bill Lynn (3), Joel Eaves (2), Tommy Joe Eagles (1) and Cliff Ellis (1).
