Despite the heartbreaking loss against #11 Oklahoma on the road, Auburn star wide receiver Cam Coleman was electrifying, particularly during the first half.

The second-year wide receiver out of Phenix City, Alabama, put forth a fantastic stat line in Norman, Oklahoma, recording three receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown.

Coleman’s first reception came on Auburn’s first play from scrimmage. On a slightly underthrown ball from Arnold, Coleman hauled in the reception in the middle of the field with defensive back Peyton Bowen in coverage, being good for a 46-yard gain.

The second catch of the day for Coleman came at the beginning of the second quarter, on the first play of Auburn’s fourth offensive drive. Arnold made this throw from deep in Auburn’s end zone, finding Coleman open on the sideline in stride for 40 yards. Coleman was able to get ahead of defensive back Courtland Guillory on this play, who was also the defensive back in coverage on Coleman’s eventual touchdown.

Coleman’s third and final reception of the day came as a beautifully thrown back shoulder pass from quarterback Jackson Arnold, resulting in a touchdown. This touchdown, along with the extra point by kicker Alex McPherson, tied the game at 10-10 with only one minute remaining in the half.

While Coleman did not record any more receptions in the second half, he did still have a couple of noteworthy plays during the second half. The first of which took place two-thirds of the way through the third quarter, when Coleman completely burned defensive back Devon Jordan on the sideline but was just overthrown by Arnold. This play would have likely resulted in a touchdown.

Secondly, about a third of the way through the fourth quarter, Arnold threw a backwards pass to wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr., who attempted to complete a double-pass to Coleman in the end zone. This play was ruled incomplete, but many fans, along with the primary broadcasting team during the game, have questioned whether defensive back Gentry Williams should have been called for pass interference, as he appeared to be dragging Coleman down while attempting to break up the pass. Ultimately, no flag was thrown, and it only appears on the stat sheet as a target for Coleman and an incomplete pass.

So far this season, Coleman has recorded 13 receptions for 237 yards and two touchdowns. This follows up a true freshman campaign in which Coleman soared, having 37 receptions for 598 yards and eight touchdowns through eleven games.

Notably, during his 2024 campaign in the Tigers’ week 13 matchup against the Texas A&M Aggies, Coleman recorded seven receptions for 128 yards and two touchdowns, including a 63-yard touchdown and a 15-yard touchdown reception, both helping the Tigers to a 21-0 lead. Coleman will look to improve upon this stat line in College Station, where the Aggies will be seeking revenge after Auburn’s upset win in a 4OT thriller last season.

Coleman and the Auburn Tigers will play again on September 27, 2025, in College Station, Texas, against Texas A&M. This game will take place at 2:30 p.m. and will stream on ESPN.
