Following a 2-0 victory against Utah Valley on September 1st, Auburn (4-2-1) routed Florida Gulf Coast University (2-3-1) 5-0 at home to close out non-conference play.

“Incredibly proud of the girls, you know, I thought that we created a lot of chances, I mean twenty-six shots on goal, limited them to six, and then really pulled it in the offense, so overall a really good day in the offense,” head soccer coach James Armstrong stated when asked about the overall performance of the team. “Whenever you can shut somebody out, you have to take a great amount of pride from that… for us to lock down and get that clean sheet was great.”

Auburn’s defense played lights out in the first half, not allowing a single shot by the FGCU Eagles. On the offensive side, Florida State University transfer Erin Flury made two goals, one of which coming via penalty kick. This puts her at seven goals on the season, which leads the team by five. Defender Taylor Chism and goalkeeper Ayana Yapo both played all 45 minutes of the first half, with Chism scoring her second goal of the season during the 38th minute. These performances led the way for a dominant first half, carrying momentum into the second.

Assisted by defender Jordyn Crosby, redshirt junior Dylan Driver made her first career goal in the 67th minute against FGCU goalkeeper Danyelle Dorn. “I saw Jordyn Crosby driving along the sideline, you know, she sauced a couple defenders and then hit a great pass to me, and then I had little time with the ball to make a decision, and, you know, felt that the left foot far corner was the way to go.” Driver recapped.

Auburn will open SEC play against Ole Miss in Oxford, MS on September 12th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CDT on ESPN+.
