Auburn soccer struck hard Sunday night in an unfavorable road environment as the Tigers (5-2-3, 1-0-2) went head-to-head with No. 12 Mississippi State (7-1-1, 2-0-1) and left with a 1-1 draw and one point toward their conference standings at the MSU Soccer Field.

“A really tough place to play on the road against a quality opponent,” Tigers head coach James Armstrong said. “I’m so proud of the effort from the girls from start to finish. Obviously, it stings a little bit because we feel we were so close, but overall I think a draw is probably a fair reflection of the game tonight.”

Auburn found the net first in the 58th minute with a goal from junior Olivia Woodson. Mississippi State added to the scoreboard soon after with a goal from Ally Perry with less than three minutes remaining in the match.

In the goal from the Tigers, junior Grace Ivey’s shot was blocked, but the rebound fell to Woodson on the left side of the box. Woodson then sent the ball past the keeper, who was already down from Ivey’s attempt, slotting it into the back post.

Auburn held the lead for 30 minutes before Perry struck in the last three minutes to salvage a point for the Bulldogs.

Auburn’s defense gave up just four shots on goal to a strong MSU attack. The Tigers have yet to allow more than four shots on goal in a single match through 900 minutes played this season.

The tie marks the Tigers’ first time scoring on a ranked conference opponent on the road since 2021, when Auburn tied No. 13 Ole Miss 2-2. The Auburn win also marks the end of the Bulldogs’ 12-game win streak in league play.

Woodson showed out with her second goal in as many matches. She has four total on the season and 17 in her career. Nine of the 17 have been on the road.
