The Auburn Tigers came back from a 14-point hole to defeat the Texas Longhorns 88-82 in Neville Arena this evening.

“Another unbelievable environment, another unbelievable crowd,” Auburn head coach Steven Pearl said. “It makes all the difference in the world. Having a full house gives our guys the confidence and courage to chip away and get back in the game. Our guys hung in there, and we were able to find a way to grind out a win. Really proud of the guys.”

Auburn's dynamic duo, Keyshawn Hall and Kevin Overton, led the team with a combined 56 points, with 31 and 25, respectively. The pair combined for 13-of-22 from the field and 8-of-13 from beyond the arc. Tahaad Pettiford also contributed a solid game tonight, with seven points, three rebounds, and zero turnovers.

“We’re going to keep trying to win, keep trying to roll,” said Hall, who was 14-for-17 from the free-throw line. “We’ve got to keep getting better as a team, staying consistent every day.”

“Making myself open off the catch is where I think I can affect the game,” said Overton, who made five of their combined 8 three-pointers and went 8-for-8 from the free throw line.

Auburn trailed the Longhorns by eight at halftime, but Overton and Hall produced a flurry of offensive action, scoring 17 and 25 points each. The team as a whole shot 68.4% from the field in the second half, and forced 11 turnovers from the Longhorns.

“Key and KO had a lot of step-up in that second half,” Pearl said of Hall and Overton. “We got bailed out by two of our best players. Key and KO were phenomenal.”

The Tigers will be hitting the road to Knoxville, where they will face the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday, January 31 at 7:30 PM CST.
