Coming off their third SEC win last Thursday, first-year head coach Larry Vickers and the Auburn Tigers women’s basketball team were hoping to continue their strong play in a matchup against No. 23 Georgia on Monday night.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, the Bulldogs emerged from Neville Arena with a comfortable 74-52 victory after catching fire offensively in the second half. With Auburn currently sitting at 3-10 in conference play, the final two regular-season games will be crucial in building momentum as the Tigers head into the SEC Tournament in two weeks.

Auburn held Georgia to just 30 points in the first half and faced only a seven-point deficit heading into the break. However, a fourth quarter in which the Bulldogs scored 26 points proved to be the deciding factor. Auburn was stifled throughout the game, scoring 15 points or fewer in every quarter.
Turnovers were the real difference for Auburn. The Tigers finished with a minus-6 turnover margin, and 28 of Georgia’s points came off takeaways. Georgia also shot 57% from the floor compared to Auburn’s 40%. Overall, it was a dominant victory for the Bulldogs.
There were some bright spots for the Tigers, many of which came from forward Khady Leye. The sophomore from Louga, Senegal, led Auburn in points and rebounds, finishing with 16 points on 6-for-7 shooting and grabbing five rebounds. Leye was also disruptive on defense, recording two steals.
Junior guard Ja’Mia Harris had a solid offensive night as well, scoring 13 points on 50% shooting from the field while knocking down three 3-pointers. Kaitlyn Duhon, despite a shaky shooting performance, showed physicality by grabbing five rebounds and recording two steals.
Georgia had three players score 16 or more points. Sophomore guard Dani Carnegie led the Bulldogs with 17 points on 7-for-14 shooting, despite struggling from 3-point range. Carnegie also made her presence felt defensively, tallying four steals and a block. Junior guard Rylie Theuerkauf was on fire from beyond the arc, hitting seven 3-pointers and finishing with 16 points. Sophomore forward Mia Woolfolk added 16 points on 5-for-8 shooting and dished out three assists, making her one of Georgia’s most efficient scorers of the night.
It is now go-time for the Auburn Tigers if they hope to make a splash in the NCAA Tournament. The next two games are as important as ever as they look to catch fire at the right time.
Be sure to catch the Tigers on Thursday at 6 p.m. CST as they face a tough opponent in the No. 16 Kentucky Wildcats at Neville Arena.
