Auburn baseball associate head coach Gabe Gross is transitioning into a new role with Auburn Athletics after serving nine seasons on the Tigers’ coaching staff.

Gross will now serve as a special assistant for athletics engagement, where he will assist with fundraising efforts and contribute to Auburn’s baseball broadcasts, both on radio and television.

"My family and I have been incredibly blessed over the years by many things, but perhaps none more so than Auburn University and the game of baseball," Gross said. "It has been an incredible honor to serve as Auburn's hitting coach over the last nine years, but the time has come for me to transition into a different role for Auburn Athletics."

Gross explained that his decision was driven by a desire to spend more time with his family, specifically his teenage children, as the demands of college baseball continue to grow in the ever-changing world of NIL.

"I have two teenagers at home, and our time with them under our roof is quickly fading," Gross said. "The current construct of collegiate athletics and college baseball demands your full attention, and my family does as well. While it's difficult to step away, I know it's the right decision."

Gross departs from the program after helping build up one of the most successful stretches in Auburn history. During his tenure as both the hitting coach and the eventual associate head coach, Auburn reached six NCAA Tournaments, five super regionals and appeared in two College World Series.

The Tigers hit for a collective .286 batting average while recording 959 doubles and 640 home runs over 503 games. This includes 90 home runs in 2026, which is the third-highest single-season mark in program history.

In addition, Gross also helped recruit seven top-15 signing classes, including three consecutive top-10 classes from 2024-26. He also mentored 21 All-SEC selections, six All-Americans, seven Freshman All-Americans and 17 MLB Draft picks during his coaching career.

The former Auburn All-American, first-round MLB Draft pick and 2016 SEC Baseball Legend leaves the coaching staff with a lasting impact on the program, both on and off the field.

While his role within Auburn Athletics is changing, he will continue serving Auburn in a new form, remaining closely connected to the baseball program and helping support its future growth and success.
