Gillikin powers series win over Georgia

Don’t look now, but the Auburn Tigers are on a roll. After falling behind in the conference standings, the Tigers have now picked up consecutive SEC series wins against Ole Miss, and now rival Georgia. Auburn’s (28-16, 9-11) latest, a series-clinching 5-1 win on Friday night, was keyed by a strong pitching performance by Rocky McCord and a timely bases-clearing triple from Sam Gillikin. With the bases loaded and the score knotted at one in the fourth inning, Gillikin launched a rocket into the right field wall, and as he strolled into third, the crowd of 3,609 at Plainsman Park erupted. “That was a lot of weight off my shoulders,” Gillikin said.

Haecker homers in mid-week victory over Florida A&M

Five hitless innings were in the book before Auburn (26-16, 8-11 SEC) pushed two runs across in the sixth inning, and Damon Haecker sealed the win with a home run in the ninth to defeat Florida A&M 3-2 Tuesday, April 21, at Plainsman Park. “We didn't have a lot of energy in the dugout, and I guess that is coming off the emotions of last weekend,” said head coach Sunny Golloway.

Burgreen comes up big, preserves 4-2 win over Georgia State

On a muggy April night, swarms of insects rampaged through Plainsman Park, causing commotion wherever they flew. But at the end of the night, it was Jackson Burgreen who had everyone buzzing. Burgreen might’ve not been a huge part of the lineup for most of the season after breaking his finger in a win over Xavier early in March, but Wednesday night, March 8, he made the biggest play of the game in Auburn’s 4-2 win over Georgia State. With the Tigers leading 4-2 in the ninth and one Georgia State runner on, Caden Bailey made a dead-on connection with a Dalton Rentz pitch, launching it deep into left-center field.

Auburn baseball offense falters in 6-4 loss, Tigers drop series to Arkansas

After evening up the series Saturday night, April 4, the Auburn Tigers felt that Sunday’s game, April 5, and by extension the series, was a must-win. On Easter Auburn let two leads squander away—one late in the game—and fell to the Arkansas Razorbacks 6-4, dropping the series in the process. Up 3-2 after six strong innings from Rocky McCord, the Tigers looked to be in good position to win.

Auburn pulls away late, defeats Samford 9-4

The visiting Auburn Tigers continued their winning ways Tuesday, defeating the Samford Bulldogs 9-4 behind strong performances from Anfernee Grier and Kyler Deese. The Tigers (18-11) were locked in a tight battle early, tied at three after four innings, but they broke the game open in the seventh when Deese launched a two-run homer to put Auburn up 8-4. Starter Rocky McCord threw five strong innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and five strikeouts to pick up the win, and Justin Camp closed the game to claim his fifth save of the season. Daniel Robert extended his career-best hitting streak to nine games on a double in the fourth inning, and he later scored on a single from Deese.

Auburn shuts out Mississippi State for first SEC road win

Behind seven strong innings from starter Cole Lipscomb and timely run production from the offense, the Auburn Tigers shut out the host Mississippi State Bulldogs, 5-0, to claim their first road SEC win in the weekend opener. The shutout was Auburn’s first of a conference opponent on the road since 2007, and the first road shutout of Mississippi State since 1976. Lipscomb (4-0) allowed only four hits on the day while striking out seven on 117 pitches, a career-high for the sophomore. The Tigers (16-10, 2-5) got on the board in the second inning when Cody Nulph drove in Blake Logan on a two-out single to left field. The next inning, Auburn broke the game open by scoring four, which ended up being four more than the Tigers would need to win. Daniel Robert doubled to left, bringing two runs in, and Logan’s subsequent grounder went through the legs of the Bulldogs’ third baseman, scoring Robert.
