Department of Geosciences receives excellence in education award

The University's Department of Geosciences has been selected to receive the 2016 University Senate Departmental Award for Excellence in Education, according to a University release. The award carries a $30,000 grant that will be administered in three yearly installments of $10,000 and used for activities that enhance teaching and learning. “The Department of Geosciences is to be commended for its teaching excellence and progressive planning, and for putting together an excellent proposal that reflects their departmental goals,” said Auburn University Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Timothy Boosinger.

The University and the Alabama Community College System are working together with their aviation programs, according to a University press release.  President Jay Gogue and Alabama Community College System Chancellor Mark Heinrich signed a "memorandum of understanding" Thursday at the Auburn University Regional Airport, marking the beginning of the partnership. Students honored during memorial ceremony

In memory of Eric Jaegge, Dakota Parker and Justin Latting Weimer, Auburn students and faculty, as well as friends and family gathered together in the Student Center Ballroom to celebrate the lives of the three students who’d passed during this school year. Bobby Woodard, associate provost and vice president for student affairs, opened the memorial ceremony and offered his condolences to the family and friends in attendance. “For 17 years I’ve been in this field and these ceremonies never get any better...situations like this are never easy,” Woodard said. Woodard then read the poem “The Dash” by Linda Ellis, where Ellis describes the time between birth and death as a ‘dash’, or the time that matters. “I hope you understand that here at Auburn University, the people sitting in this room are honored to be a part of your sons’ ‘dash’,” Woodard said.
