As SGA senators and executive officers get settled into their new positions, each student begins to set a precedent for the role they will play in senate and within their committees. Kayla Warner, diversity and multicultural affairs committee chair, said she wants to educate her fellow senators on diversity and for people to walk away from each meeting knowing something they didn’t before. “I just want to let you all know that I’m taking this very seriously and it’s something I’m really passionate about,” Warner said. Warner said she wants to teach senate about topics such as, thinking styles, language, gender, race and religion, as well as teaching senators to respect everyone and what they’re saying. “Every week for up to two minutes, I’m going to show a little diversity,” Warner said.
James Smith, Auburn for Water president, is working with other Auburn for Water organization members to plan events to raise awareness about the scarcity of clean drinking water in the world as well as raise money for families in Cambodia. Smith said they are close to reaching their annual goal. “Our goal for this year is to raise $15,000 to provide 100 families in Cambodia with clean drinking water,” Smith said.
Army Gen. Lloyd J. Austin shared his advice and experiences at the New Horizons Lecture at Langdon Hall. Austin, commissioned as an Infantry second lieutenant in 1975 after graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, has a Bachelor of Science from the U.S. Military Academy, a Master's Degree in Education from Auburn University and a Master's in Business Management from Webster University.

The chance to promote recycling isn’t something the department of waste reduction and recycling is willing to throw away. Auburn University is currently participating in the 2016 Recyclemania tournament featuring more than 600 colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
“No Impact Week is an international initiative designed to promote sustainability by challenging people to live lifestyles that are better for them and for the environment,” Summerfield said.
With help from Auburn University’s Office of Sustainability, the OIT computer labs are now printing with tree-free paper. According to OIT employee Jim Hawkins, Michael Kensler, director of the Office of Sustainability, came to him with this idea Nov. 17. He said the paper is made out of byproducts from sugar cane, and the paper came from Staples.
"Part of my mission at Auburn is to get the students to experience the global world and especially the music outside of the United States," said Director of Bands Rick Good.
Two College of Veterinary Medicine faculty were part of a medical team that performed surgery last month on Kentucky Derby winning horse War Emblem, according to a University release.
Cater Lawn was filled today with crickets — cricket players that is. The Auburn University Cricket Club demonstrated how to play the sport, and then eager volunteers were allowed to join in and play. The event is part of the Office of International Programs' theme for this school year: India. "We've been doing a regional study program now for about four years," said Jennifer Mason, director of international initiatives in the Office of International Programs.

Moore, Edward Lee Spencer, James Shelton Voss, Walter Stanley Woltosz and William Joel Shumaker with its highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award, at a dinner and induction ceremony at the Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center Saturday, March 12.

Lauren Burk was walking through campus on her way back from her boyfriend’s dorm when she was abducted, shot, and left fatally wounded on Alabama Highway 147. Her killer then drove back to campus and set her car on fire.
SGA’s Hey Day Committee has brought this campaign to Tiger Dining as a way to further develop campus relationships.
The Auburn University’s Campus Food Pantry is available for students to use. The pantry, which began in the spring of 2012 by the Division of Student Affairs, provides assistance to students who face food insecurity.
“I’m going to be challenging you guys week in and week out with different things... you start to step into a committee roll now,” Smith said.
