Aubie film a hit, snags first place

Auburn University's well-known and charismatic mascot, Aubie, received first place for his 2013 UCA Nationals video.

This win completes the third consecutive year that Aubie has won first place for his video.

Aubie did receive help from his team to produce the video.

"The directors of Aubie film Aubie at his appearances and Aubie chooses the clips that he likes and cuts the footages," said Logan Matthews, graduate assistant for the Office of Student Involvement.

These clips are compiled into a video and sent to Jump Hi, a company in Atlanta. Jump Hi completed the final copy and made sure it was ready for the competition.

Aubie's video was competing against videos from 23 different Division 1A schools and their mascots, according to the Universal Cheerleaders Association website.

Also in the top five with Aubie were mascots Goldy Gopher from University of Minnesota, Bucky Badger from University of Wisconsin Madison, Mike the Tiger from Louisiana State University and Chip the Buffalo from University of Colorado.

Big Al from the University of Alabama barely made the top 10 at number eight.

The two minute video is just part of the competition, Matthews said, and the second part is a skit that Aubie will perform in Orlando at Disney's Wide World of Sports on Martin Luther King weekend. The skit will be short and prepared by Aubie before his performance.
