Tigers rally to beat Ole Miss

Auburn was able to get back on track on Sunday with a five set victory over the Ole Miss Rebels. The Tigers came into the game on a two game losing streak including a dramatic loss to Kentucky in five sets on Friday night.

“We knew we had to come out and bring a lot of energy after playing Kentucky. That was such an emotional match that I think we were a little gassed,” Auburn head coach Rick Nold said.

After a slow start, in which Auburn lost the first set 25-23, the Tigers eventually found their groove as they went on to take the next two sets from the Rebels.

Ole Miss was able to push it to five sets with a strong performance in the fourth but the couldn't hold off the Tigers for long as they came back to win the fifth set 15-13.

Offensively, Auburn was lead by sophomore Brenna McIlroy with 18 kills and freshman Gwyn Jones with 14. Defensively, the Tigers relied on Jesse Earl as she recorded 29 digs.

Junior setter Alexa Filley had an exceptional game as she recorded her third triple-double of the year and second against the Rebels. Filley accounted for 10 kills, 42 assists, and 10 digs.

“Getting a triple-double is reality exciting because I love attacking,” said Filley. “Getting another one is icing on the cake for this great win.”

Auburn is now 14-12 on the season and 8-4 in the SEC as they travel to Tuscaloosa on Wednesday and return to Auburn Arena on Sunday, Nov. 20 to hose the Gamecocks of South Carolina.
