Three people charged with motorcycle thefts

The Auburn Police Division arrested three people Saturday in connection with the theft of motorcycles in the Auburn area.

Police arrested Michaela Briann Carrillo, 26 from Phenix City, Alabama; Joel Christopher Scroggs, 29, from Opelika; and Samuel Ray Lansdon, 26, from Smiths Station, Alabama, on several warrants charging them with first-degree theft of property, police said Monday.

Police received a call Saturday at about 5:20 a.m. about a theft in progress near the 600 block of Nissa Court. Police received a description of a suspect who had been seen taking a Yamaha motorcycle from the residence. Police said they located Scroggs and the stolen motorcylce. Carillo and Lansdon were found in a vehicle in the vicinity.

Officers also found a stolen Kawasaki motorcycle in the woods nearby that was also stolen from the same house.

Police later obtained warrants for the arrest of the three people. They were also charged with the theft of a Honda motorcycle stolen from another residence in the 2000 block of Wire Road on May 17.

All three suspects are being held in the Lee County Jail. Scroggs is in custody on a $15,000 bond, Carillo on a $16,500 bond and Lansdon on a $10,000 bond.

Carrillo was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, police said.
