For the second time in his young career, Austin Wiley will represent the United States in a worldwide event.
Wiley was named to the USA U19 team Thursday morning. The 12-player team will travel to Egypt to play in the FIBA World Cup from July 1-9. Kentucky head coach John Calipari will coach the United States team.
Last summer, Wiley won a gold medal with the FIBA U17 World Championship team in Spain.
Wiley’s Auburn teammate Chuma Okeke also participated in training for the national team, but was sent home Thursday after suffering a knee injury. He was one of the 18 finalists to make the team.
Wiley averaged 8.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game as a freshman for Auburn. The former five-star recruit played in 23 games for Bruce Pearl, starting 22 of them. He scored a career-high 25 points in Auburn’s 88-80 victory at TCU and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in Auburn’s loss at South Carolina.
