Experimental rocket explosion results in two minor injuries

An experimental rocket explosion led to two minor injuries at Davis Hall around 3 p.m. on Friday. The explosion was heard as far as the Haley Concourse.

"They are going to get checked out now. So everything is safe now, everything is good," said Chance Corbett, associate director of emergency management.

Shrapnel from the explosion vaulted several hundred feet away from the explosion site, landing as far as Ross Square between Samford Hall and Foy Hall.

"There was pieces of stuff hitting the sidewalk," said Chris Moore, an Auburn alumnus who was tailgating near Samford Hall when the explosion happened. "There was pretty big chunks of metal flying around. I could feel the explosion. You could feel it. It hit you in your chest. It was loud."

Individuals inside Foy Hall said they felt the shake of the explosion.

An AU-Alert was released to students and faculty at 3:39 p.m. ensuring those on and off-campus of no impending threats.
