Auburn's bass sports club came in second place at the Southern Collegiate Bass Fishing Series this weekend.
The team totaled a weight of 64 lbs.
The first place trophy went to the University of North Alabama, who had a total weight of 68 lbs.
In third place was the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a total weight of 58 lbs.
Auburn was the host of this year's series, which took place on Lake Wilson in Florence.
Auburn had four boats, with two men on each boat, participate in the tournament.
Richard Peek, vice president of the team, said approximately 20 teams made it to and competed in the series.
He said the total number of anglers representing these teams was around 100.
Team member J.T. Murphy said the greatest challenge the teams experienced throughout the weekend was the size of the lake compared to the number of boats in the tournament.
He said the lake was small, and there were approximately 50 boats on the lake each day.
Auburn's bass sports club was started in March 2007 and now has grown to 25 active members.
So far this year, the second year of being a sports club, these anglers have placed in the top five at every event they have participated in.
In January, Auburn came in first out of 15 universities competing at the Lake Neely-Henry Invitational.
In February, two of Auburn's teams finished in third and fourth places out of teams representing 21 universities at the Lake Guntersville Invitational.
More recently, Auburn won the 2009 Southern Collegiate Series Match Title and the Series Angling Team Title.
They also took second place at the College Bass East Super Regional on Clarks Hill Lake in Evans, Ga.
Adam Murphree, tournament director for the team, said his favorite part of being on the team is getting to spend time with many of his close friends while doing something they enjoy.
"I love fishing, but when I can do it with my best friends, it makes it even better," Murphy said.
The team meets every other Tuesday night.
Meetings are open to anyone interested in joining the Auburn bass sports club.
Dues are $150, with a guaranteed spot on the team. In order to determine who will fish at tournaments, the team holds qualifiers each month.
"The top eight guys to fish the qualifiers make the traveling team, and those are the people who will fish in the series," Peek said.
