Track and field win 7 events

Auburn's track and field teams had a successful run at the War Eagle Invitational last weekend, as the Tigers won seven events and captured 13 regional qualifying marks.

"We had great weather and great competition, and I'm really pleased with how we performed," said head coach Ralph Spry. "We had a lot of people step up today and run some fast, national times. We had 17 regional qualifying marks during the meet, and Marcus Rowland and Joanna Atkins were extremely fast."

Atkins won the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.77. Only one other Tiger ran the dash faster -- Markita James in 2006. Atkins' time ranks second in the NCAA this season.

Atkins helped teammates Shaquela Williams, Cache Armbrister and Nivea Smith win the 4x100-meter relay.

Atkins and Armbrister competed with Danielle Gilchrist and CeCe Williams to take the 4x400-meter relay event. Armbrister also won the 200 meter dash.

Rowland won the 200 meter dash, posting a 20.48 time, while Felix Kiboiywo won the men's 800-meter dash.

Cathryn Albright won the women's 5,000 meter event.

"The thing we have to do is keep our focus and keep doing the things we have to do to keep ourselves in position for the last part of the season," Spry said.

Auburn travels to Philadelphia, Pa., for Penn Relays today.
