Wit to give "The Final Lecture" week from today

Students will applaud themselves and their teachers one last time April 9.

The Final Lecture, an event meant to be a part of commencement and a commendation for outstanding professors, will be held at 5 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.

SGA started the lecture last year as a way of providing large-scale student-recognition for outstanding professors, said Rohan Kambeyanda, SGA director of the Final Lecture.

"We're trying to get it ingrained," Kambeyanda said.

Lawrence Wit, associate dean for the College of Science and Math, was selected this year to deliver the Final Lecture. The lecture will be attended mostly by juniors and seniors, although all are welcome.

The top five candidates will be honored at a breakfast with President Jay Gogue.

Kambeyanda said the selection process began last semester. Anyone could have nominated a teacher to deliver the lecture.

The nominations were then compiled and reviewed by a group of student leaders, who chose the top five for students to vote on during the SGA elections.
