Auburn sophomore running back Eric Smith, 19, was arrested this morning for misdemeanor disorderly conduct.

According to the police report, the arrest happened at 1:42 a.m. in the parking lot of the Lexington Hotel on S. College Street in Auburn.

The report states that Smith was sober and did not resist arrest, and that the police were not called to the scene because they were "on view."

Auburn police Capt. Tom Stofer said that Smith was taken to the Lee County Detention Center.

According to another police report, a 22-year-old Auburn student was treated for injuries after a dispute in the Lexington Hotel parking lot at the same time as Smith's arrest this morning. Stofer said it is unclear at this time if the two incidents are connected.

"I spent a lot of the day fact-finding and doing a lot of research on the incident," Head Coach Gene Chizik said during a press conference today. "I am not going to go into any details or the specifics of the matter. In my opinion it is a family matter between Eric, myself and our football team, but I can assure it has been addressed."

Smith played in all 12 games for the Tigers last year, and rushed for 83-yards.

"I have met with the young man, I have met with our football team," Chizik said. "We have certain expectations of an Auburn man and quite frankly he did not live up to that. We have addressed it and if you see him in an Auburn uniform again I can guarantee you he has paid a price to be an Auburn man, and he will be a lot better man at that point."
