AUET reigns in wins

The No. 2 Auburn Equestrian team (9-2) defeated No. 9 New Mexico State (4-4) Saturday and No. 4 Oklahoma State (4-4) Sunday.

"(The OSU meet) was a really good win," said head coach Greg Williams. "We had a fantastic weekend, OSU today they really came in to ride hard and they did. This was a good win. We didn't give any gifts and we didn't give any back."

The Tigers beat the Aggies 14-4 Saturday and the Cowgirls Sunday 12-8.

"It's a huge advantage to be able to ride back-to-back two days in a row," said Sunday's Hunt Seat MVP junior Dottie Grubb. "They were in South Carolina yesterday so they kind of had a leg up on having a day of practice with strange horses so we knew that coming in."

Before Sunday's meet, Auburn and OSU's Western teams were both 4-1.

"Going in (to Sunday) we were both equal on the Western side so this puts us one up as far as wins go," said junior Jillian Fuller. "It's always our personal goal to win. This was a big win."

Auburn beat the Cowgirls in Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat 3-2, Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences 3-2 and Western Reining 4-1.

OSU was only able to pull out a win in Western Horsemanship, winning 3-2.

Williams credited the win to the hard work of the girls and assistant coaches Lindsay Neubarth and Lisa Helfer.

The Tigers welcome Baylor Saturday at 1 p.m.
