I found your recent article by Kelly Tsaltas about breast cancer awareness to be highly offensive.
I lost my mother to breast cancer six weeks ago. Her initial diagnosis was 21 years ago. She was in remission for 19 years.
It is remarkable to see how breast cancer treatment advanced in that 19 years.
It is because of that awareness and funding that there were treatments available that allowed my mom to live an additional 2 1/2 years after her recurrence. It is because of that awareness that I wore a pink breast cancer bracelet every day from April 4, 2009 until my mother's death in September 23, 2011. I actually placed that bracelet in her casket.
I would urge Ms. Tsaltas to read the book by Nancy Brinker about how the Susan G.Komen Foundation began. It is because of that awareness and funding that lives are being saved today. Research for treatments and cures requires a great deal of money. Money is raised when people are aware.
