Oscars Recap: One for the books

As always, the Oscars mark the end of the award season for 2013. After Amy Poehler and Tina Fey hosted the Golden Globes, viewers have been wondering how far "Family Guy" creator Seth McFarland would take his jokes. Of course some were off color and offensive, but hardly anything to cry over. In fact, with the "music themed" ceremony, he kept the opening performance tame by following a handful of crass jokes with musical dance performances from some of the presenters.

Rather than the usual awards show with short clips of painfully orchestrated jokes, some of the attention was taken off the well-dressed presenters, but put on a handful of musical performances. While the performances were delightful, the ceremony found time for performances from "Chicago" and "Dreamgirls" but didn't bother to include two of the nominations for Best Original Song. Even though we all knew "Skyfall" was going to win, it would have been nice to pretend that the others stood a fighting chance.

Other than snubbing the song nominees, whoever picked the music for the evening decided to have a bit of fun by playing people off with the theme from "Jaws." While it was a witty jab at the overdone acceptance speeches, it became more of a nuisance as the night wore on.

I Told You So:

Best Film: "Argo"

I admit that I finally saw this movie this weekend and it was an obvious choice for best picture. It had the historical importance of "Lincoln" or "Zero Dark Thirty" with emotional resonance and continual suspense.

Lead Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis, "Lincoln"

You didn't have to see "Lincoln" to know he was going to win (I sure didn't)

Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway, "Les Miserables"

An obvious pick that left everyone utterly unshocked.

Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz "Django Unchained"

The first of the awards, presented by Auburn alumna, Octavia Spencer, I have to say I told you so.

So I Was Wrong:

Best Director: Ang Lee, "Life of Pi"

I really didn't see this one coming, but like I said before, with Ben Affleck and Kathryn Bigelow out of the running I wasn't sure who I even wanted to vote for.

Lead Actress: Jennifer Lawrence, "Silver Linings Playbook"

Okay, I knew she was going to win, but you can't blame me for hoping that Jessica Chastain was going to win.
