Former Auburn baseball All-American and Oakland Athletics All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson was announced as the final competitor for the American League Thursday in this year's MLB Home Run Derby at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, according to Oakland A's beat reporter Jane Lee.
It will be Donaldson's first time participating in any Major League All-Star event.
Toronto's Jose Bautista is the captain for the American League and used his captain's pick to add Donaldson to the team.
Hitting .241 with 20 homers on the season, Donaldson will join the American League Monday and start at third base for the squad in the All-Star game Tuesday.
Donaldson joins teammate Yoenis Cespedes, the defending derby champion; squad captain Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays, Brian Dozier of the Minnesota Twins and Adam Jones of the Baltimore Orioles on the AL team.
The former Tiger leads all Major League third baseman with 20 home runs and is fifth overall in the American League.
The MLB Home Run Derby starts at 7 p.m. Monday and will be televised by ESPN.
