The No. 4 Auburn equestrian team started off their season with a 13-7 road victory over the UT-Martin Skyhawks on Friday, Sept. 19.
The two teams faced off at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion in Martin, Tennessee.
The Tigers started off the meet with a 2-0 lead in the Fences competition before the Skyhawks managed to get on the board. In the horsemanship division the score was tied before the Tigers scored 3 straight points from juniors Hannah Loseke and Lucy Igoe and senior Katie Buff. Their performances gave Auburn a 6-4 lead at the break.
Junior Elizabeth Benson was a standout at the meet, earning MOP honors in both English events in which she participated.
After UT-Martin gained the lead, the Tigers fought back with close wins by seniors Demi Stiegler and Jennifer Delman. The win over the Skyhawks was sealed when freshman Alexa Rivard claimed a 72-57.5 win over Sam Knight. Two more Auburn wins resulted in the 13-7 score, with senior Katsy Leeman also earning MOP honors.
The equestrian team will next be in action October 10th against top ranked South Carolina at 3 p.m.
