Montgomery leads balanced Tigers to FIU blowout

Five Auburn players scored double-digit points, led by sophomore Brandy Montgomery's 20, as the Tigers routed Florida International 81-44 Monday afternoon in the opening game of the FIU Fun & Sun Classic.
Auburn (9-3) shot 55 percent from the field for the game, and held FIU to only 23.8 percent, using a 34-2 run in the first half to break the game open. The Tigers forced the Panthers into 27 turnovers--18 in the first half--and collected 20 steals.
Montgomery collected 20 points, along with five steals, in only 20 minutes of game time. Katie Frerking and Hasina Muhammad both contributed 12 points, and sophomore Khady Dieng added 10, as did freshman Neydja Petithomme.
FIU led early, jumping out to a 12-6 lead as Auburn missed on 10 of its first 13 shots. However, the Tigers connected 16 of their next 21 attempts, going on a 37-9 run to end the half.
Auburn will play its final non-conference game of the year Tuesday, facing either Hampton or Boston College in Miami.
