It was only a two-run game for the Tigers on Wednesday, March 11, against Troy, but two was all they needed to seal the victory, allowing no runs from the Trojans.
Coming back into Alabama from sunny Fullerton, California with three out of five game wins, the Tiger’s were in great shape to battle the Trojans for the second time this season, even if they still aren’t back at Jane B. Moore field quite yet.
The team owes a lot of credit to shortstop Haley Fagan for the win, who drilled a hit into the center field wall, brining in Emily Carosone and Kasey Cooper. Fagan’s first-inning hit was the only scoring drive of the game.
Auburn held their own against Troy on defense with Rachel Walter’s first pitch hit postponed until the end of the second inning.
The end of the third was quiet with mostly base walks for the Trojans on offense, but the Tigers tightened up with a Walter’s strikeout and a defensive double-out play to end the inning.
It looked as though Auburn would bring more points on the board with a single by Kasey Cooper up the middle, but the Tigers took another scoreless inning, staying 2-0.
Marcy Harper then took the position on the pitcher’s mound only allowing two walks in four innings, and holding Troy’s offense from scoring anything for three consecutive times in batting position.
The Tiger’s attempted to bring in more points at bat throughout the rest of the game, but had trouble rounding third, headed home.
Jenna Abbott then came out to close the game at a frozen score of 2-0 since the top of the match.
The now 12th-ranked Tigers hold a 26-2 record as they prepare for their first SEC matchup, the Ole Miss Rebels for a three-game series in Oxford staring Saturday, March 14.
