A spirit that is not afraid

Auburn baseball headed to Tallahassee for NCAA Regional

Auburn is going back to the NCAA baseball tournament for the first time in five years.

The Tigers (35-24) will travel to Tallahassee, Florida, where Florida State will host No. 2 seed College of Charleston, No. 3 seed Auburn and No. 4 seed Mercer for the NCAA Regional.

"We're really excited to be traveling back to Tallahassee," said coach Sunny Golloway. "It's exciting to be playing this time of year."

The Tigers will open postseason play against College of Charleston (43-13) on Friday, May 29, at 11 a.m.

Golloway said he is still unsure of who the starting pitcher will be for Friday's game, May 29.

"We've got some options that we can throw at them," Golloway said. "We're going to look at the film one more time [before making a decision.]"

Senior pitcher Rocky McCord said he is "absolutely" ready to pitch the opening game if called upon.

"If they need me to go, I'll go," McCord said. "I'll be ready."

The Tigers last went to the NCAA Tournament in 2010 when they were defeated by Clemson in the regionals.

Auburn will join six other SEC teams in the NCAA Tournament. LSU, Vanderbilt, Florida, Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Arkansas also qualified for the postseason.
