In a beginning defensive battle between Florida and Auburn that lasted until the bottom of the fifth inning, Auburn was able to rally after one Gators run to plate four and take the victory on Florida’s home field.
Florida was able to grab the first run of the game off Dalton Guthrie’s RBI single in the bottom of the fifth, but the Gators' lead didn’t last long when Melvin Gray hit a double to center to bring in two in the sixth.
Gray would then bring in one more run in the eighth with another center field hit, this time a single following Jordan Ebert’s single, which also brought in one.
At 4-1 with the Tigers leading, Florida was unable to hold strong on offense, and Auburn claimed the victory.
The Tigers return to action with the Gators Friday night, May 15, at 6 p.m. for the second game of the series.
