Tigers grab first Regional win since 2010

It only took one run for the Tigers to shut out No. 4 seed Mercer in their second day of NCAA Regional play Saturday, May 30, in Tallahassee, Florida.

Rocky McCord started on the mound and faced the Mercer offense for more than six innings. McCord finished, dishing three strikeouts and only two walks, before Keegan Thompson relieved him to close the game and take the victory.

This game was the first Thompson has closed in his 2015 season.

On offense, the Tigers completed the only run they needed to win the game with back-to-back singles by Jordan Ebert and Sam Gillikin followed by a sac fly from Blake Logan to plate Ebert.

Damon Haecker also reached his 40th walk this season, making him the most walked Auburn player since Karl Amonite in 2005. Defensively, Haecker executed a double play in the ninth inning to help Auburn to its win.

The star of Friday’s game against College of Charleston, Jackson Burgreen, brought out two base hits for the Tigers, including an infield single and a double to the left field wall.

With this win, the Tigers keep holding on to a possible Regional win and will face the loser of the FSU versus College of Charleston game Sunday morning, May 31, at 11 a.m.
