In a three-way tie for first at 9-under, former Auburn men’s golfer Blayne Barber qualified for his first U.S. Open appearance on Monday, June 8, adding to a celebration of the birth of his daughter, Emma last week.
"It was a long day and was a grind, and I started to get tired on the back nine of the second 18." Barber said. "I kept plugging away. I wasn't hitting it good, but I made some putts down the stretch."
Barber graduated from Auburn’s men’s golf team in 2012, taking a degree in finance with him.
He is currently ranked 112th in the FedEx Cup and has recently wrapped up his first full season on the PGA Tour, which gave him a tie for eighth in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans in April, and a tie for ninth in both the Sanderson Farms Championship and the OHL Classic in November.
Barber will travel to the U.S. Open in University Place, Washington, starting June 18 and will compete with fellow Auburn alumnus and 2013 PGA Champion, Jason Dufner.
"I am very excited, and I've been there before when I played in the 2010 U.S. Amateur." Barber said. "I've seen the property, and it is a cool place to start in my first major. I'm looking forward to the opportunity."
