On Wednesday, June 10, Sophomore Kahlil Henderson qualified for the 200m final as the Auburn track and field team opened competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Henderson recorded a personal-best time of 20.29 to finish sixth in the semifinals. His time ranks as the ninth-fastest time in program history. He will begin the 200m final at 8:24 p.m. CT on Friday, June 12.
“I got off to a pretty good start and I saw the guy in lane six run up on me, so I just went with him to finish strong,” Henderson said. “I just wanted to make the finals or at least set a new personal record. I am expecting to do better than sixth place like I did last year. I am just going to run my hardest and see what happens.”
Sophomore Teray Smith finished 10th in the 200 with a personal-best time of 20.34.
The 4x100 relay team of senior Torrey Campbell, Henderson, junior Joe Fisher and Smith finished 16th at 39.82.
The women’s championships will begin Thursday at 6:45 p.m. CT starting with the pole vault.
Live coverage of day two can be seen on ESPNU from 6-7:30 p.m. CT and on ESPN from 7:30-9:30 p.m. CT.
