Lipscomb named an Academic All-American

As announced Thursday, June 4, sophomore pitcher Cole Lipscomb has been named a second-team Capital One Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Lipscomb excelled on and off the field in 2015, posting an 8-2 record with a 2.53 ERA while maintaining a 3.76 GPA in finance.

“I am extremely proud of Cole and all the hard work he puts in as a student-athlete,” coach Sunny Golloway said. “He had an outstanding season for us as shown with being named to the All-SEC team. His work in the classroom speaks to his character both on and off the field as he not only had a great year on the field but he has shown tremendous work ethic in his studies in his time at Auburn so far.”

To be eligible for Academic All-American honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.3 GPA, be at least a sophomore and be nominated by his or her sports information director.

Lipscomb is Auburn baseball’s 10th Academic All-American and the first since Ben Jones in 2008.

The Prattville native is one of only two SEC baseball players to be honored this year, along with Mississippi State infielder Seth Heck.
