A spirit that is not afraid

Schlottman wins Palmetto Amateur

Men's golfer Ben Schlottman won the Palmetto Amateur by two shots by firing a final round of 4-under 66 at the Palmetto Golf Club on Saturday, June 13.

The sophomore from Advance, North Carolina, edged Billy Kennerly of Alpharetta, Georgia, with a four round score of 8-under 69-64-73-66—272.

“It feels great to win such a prestigious event,” Schlottman said. “My round today was really solid, and I took it hole by hole and managed to shoot a good enough number to get the job done."

Schlottman is the first Auburn golfer to be named All-American as he was an honorable mention selection by Golfweek as well as being the first freshman named first-team All-SEC.

He was the SEC Freshman of the Year and member of the Freshman All-SEC team.

“I played really solid on front nine, making a 30-footer for birdie on 3 and a 10-footer for birdie on 5," Schlottman said. "When you get through the front nine even par or better, you have a chance to have a really good round, and I knew I had a chance to do some damage.”

Schlottman was one of five Tigers to be named NCAA All-Southeast Region as Auburn was one of only three teams in the nation along with No. 1 Illinois and No. 2 Texas to have five honorees.
