Thursday morning, June 18, defensive end Daquan Newkirk announced his commitment to the Tigers to join the 2016 recruiting class.
The 6-foot-3, 245-pound defensive end chose Auburn over offers from a large number of schools, including SEC teams such as Alabama and Kentucky.
The Orlando, Florida, native announced his choice over twitter saying, “I’m an Auburn Tiger baby!”
Newkirk said he made his decision after getting familiar with the coaching staff. “The coaching staff…the way they conduct themselves around the players, the way they just love one another” Newkirk said. “It’s a brotherhood around here.”
In eight games as a junior at The First Academy in Orlando, Newkirk had 42 tackles, three sacks, an interception and two forced fumbles.
The Tigers have now racked up 10 recruits for the 2016 class.
“I’m extremely bless,” Newkirk said. “I’m very excited for what’s upcoming for me.”
