A spirit that is not afraid

Volleyball drops another heartbreaker

For the second straight game, the Auburn volleyball team lost on the road in five sets, falling to Arkansas on Friday night, 3-2.

This is the second straight SEC loss for the Tigers, making them 4-5 in conference play. Auburn fell to LSU last week in another thrilling back-and-forth and Friday's match was no different. Auburn led Arkansas in almost every statistic yet still couldn't find a way to pull it out.

Brenna McIlroy and Stephanie Campbell each had strong showings, leading the team with 15 kills. Along with her 15 kills, Campbell added six blocks and four assists.

One of the more impressive players of the night was Breanna Barksdale, who hit .650 and added 13 kills to the team total. Alexa Filley tallied 47 assists, including her 2,000th-career assist and 14 digs. This was also Filley’s 12th double-double on the year.

Jesse Earl continued to show her defensive prowess by recording 20 digs to add to Auburns 64-dig total. Other defensive stats included eight total blocks for the team compared to Arkansas’ 10.

Auburn stays on the road with a game in Columbia, Missouri, against the Missouri Tigers on Sunday, Nov. 1, as it hopes to snap this SEC losing skid.
